About Us
The Cultural Diversity Festival - Te Hui Ahurea Kanorau is the annual celebration of Multicultural Educational Campaigns NZ (MECnz). This annual celebration is a free, family-friendly event held at Raumati Beach, Kāpiti Coast, that brings together multicultural communities through arts, music, dance, and food. Founded by Fernando Figueroa and Cheryll Wagener, the festival has become a cherished cornerstone of community life in Kāpiti and Horowhenua.
Over the past two years, the festival has been made possible by funding from Kāpiti Coast District Council (KCDC) - Connected Communities, MECnz and CW Events & Enterprises Limited. That support allowed us to build the foundations of something genuinely special - and the results speak for themselves.
The festival is connected to the other initiatives of MECnz, including the Multicultural Youth Collectives, ESOL, support for former refugees and migrants, and educational resources and research.
To celebrate cultural diversity in our community by
◆ Providing a safe, accepting, and welcoming space for anyone to express and celebrate their cultural identity.
◆ Welcoming newcomers to our community and offering meaningful ways for them to connect and be seen.
◆ Fostering intercultural understanding, integration, and youth social wellbeing through shared experience
